I just recieved this book in the mail. I read the first handful of pages and flipped through the rest of the book and I feel I have a good enough understanding of the book to give it this very fair assessment. I would say that of all the books on fashion I have read (I've read quite a few) that this is the most comprehensive of them all. It is both visually stunning for the seasoned fashionista looking for some pretty pictures and fashion inspiration but it also covers practicle clothing advice which is important.
The only thing I'm going to say is lacking is the "dress for your body type" section. Which really I dont think is something this audience is looking for... this book is clearly geared toward the 17-28 set. Also it bares stating since I see some of the other reviews were dishartened by this fact: this is a funky, fashionista book... and while I applaud it for its utilitarian sections on specific clothing pieces, the average Jane living in Nebraska or where ever that likes to bop around in basic clothing and has a basic sense of style is not going to "get" a lot of the pictures and what I refered to above as fashion inspiration. In other words: pick up a copy of, say, Nylon magazine or if its not available in your area (it wasnt in mine until just recently) check out their website. If you dont dig the style in that magazine your not going to appriciate the style in this book.
Other than that, if you fancy yourself a fashionista and want a great book to start off your collection (or add to what you already have since we all know once you get into fashion lit your never getting out!) then this is a great book for you!

Style Yourself Susanna Lau 9781845434113 Books Reviews

My wife says i dress too young; but she dresses too old! I gave her this book because she is in dire need of style advice; and how to dress better. Thanks!
I was able to glean lots of inspiration from this book, which skews quite young. A fun read.
Great book/good service
Young and trendy, not my style. For me, I would give it a zero star rating; I gave three stars because if you're in your teens or twenties, maybe you'd like it.

"If you have a wardrobe hole and you can plug it with a quality item, do it! If you go the cheap-'n'-trendy route, you're likely to have to fill this same hole again each year..." Then the following sections "Sequin Safari," "Rocker Tee Remix," "Grunge Gamine." Not all sections are equally outlandish for me, but I was so disappointed (and shocked) to get a book with a model sporting a mohawk, short-short skirts and shorts, and an off shoulder dress with half the bra showing. I was hoping for tips from bloggers for a "current" wardrobe.

Talk about can't judge a book by its cover!! I wish the cover had not looked so tame and sensible or I never would have wasted my money.
Well for the price of this book. I was believing these fashion bloggers were going to demonstrate styles that are realistic to try, but they didn't. My whole nightmare came true and this why I usually refrain from buying "fashion books". Because this book conformed to these stereotypes

*Never demonstrate how to wear fashion style realistically.
*Overdo it when putting an outfit together
*So anti-match- matchy and don't believe in color coordination in some way like basic matching the colors, monochromatic, or complimentary in some way
*Throw on many fashion pieces that don't go with each other
*Overly mixing fashion patterns

That why I'm somewhat disappointed in this book and why I was disappointed Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Style How to Find Your Perfect Look [Paperback]
Ann Shoket (Author) book. They need leave this type of styling to the runways and over the topness to magazines like Vogue, Elle, and The W. For to real world fashionistas and to regular women who want to look stylish who are seeking information, they need put out more realistic style advice. Most of these women who graduated with degrees in fashion were bought up by a wealthy rich family, but they are so stuck in their own world. Yes, they can afford designer clothes, but most of us can't. It's sad they failed to relate to regular women on how to put a style together. I'm a faithful reader of InStyle and Peoplestyle Watch's magazines. I can't afford the clothes, but at least they made it relatable that I CAN REDUPLICATE THE STYLE OR THE LOOK. The sale papers ads of Target, JcPenney, and Kohls make it relatable to reduplicate the look of the trend. I'm highly interested in fashion, but if I was a regular working woman, "I'll be like what the heck, they are doing way too much" and probably never pick up a "style" or "fashion" book again.

However, here are the positives of the book

*It provides (fashion) illustrations of every fashion pieces in every category (like tops, sweaters, shorts, skirts, pants, jeans, casual dresses, formal dresses, jackets, outerwear, shoes, boots, earrings, necklaces, accessories, gloves, sunglasses, swimsuits, and hats). This helps give an idea of might want to consider and want to cooperate in a wardrobe that might fit to a lifestyle. All the fashions are illustrated are realistic to find in a mall or designer boutique. By the way, these sections are majority of the book. This is the only reason I'm not going to resale the book and keep it. This why I gave it a 3 star instead of a 2 star. I minus 2 stars because I wasn't feeling on how most of these "fashion bloggers" dressed, no realism whatsoever. Remind me of the overtop style of Nicki Minaj, not Lady Gaga. It's tacky.
*Good simple styling tricks suggestions and ideas to wear at an event
*Good color scale
*Some very stylish fashionistas are featured in the book (that doesn't conform to any of the stereotypes)

Well, you can like or dislike this review (like the Seventeen's review) on however you feel, but this is my opinion and perspective. Have a nice day.
I know this book is titled "Style Yourself" but it's not really going to tell you have to put outfits together. If that's what you're looking for, skip this one. A better book for this is the Lucky Guides. This book is basically a catalog of different types of clothing. I had no idea there were so many types of jackets, pants, etc. I'm a fashion bug so this type of book appeals to me. I know that I will get lots of use out of it and I'm glad to have it.
There are not really any tips given on how to style one's clothing/body. Good information on the various types of clothing, but much of this I already knew. Some what disappointed. I was expecting something else.
