Ex-Special Forces medic, Dr Steven Dunbar, now works for the Sci-Med Inspectorate, a small unit based in the UK Home Office whose job it is to investigate crime in the Hi-Tec areas of science and medicine. Steven is therefore surprised when he is asked to investigate the deathbed confession of convicted psychopath, Hector Combe. Combe, confined to the State Mental Hospital in central Scotland, claims to have raped and murdered a young girl in a village outside Edinburgh some years before – a particularly brutal killing for which another man has been convicted and has languished in prison for over nine years. Steven begins to understand the request for his involvement when it emerges that the prisoner, Dr David Little, was an outstanding medical researcher before the murder and has always maintained his innocence. His conviction however, was based on indisputable DNA evidence, a perfect match and completely beyond doubt. Understandably, the local police resent Steven questioning anything at all about such an open and shut case but, as he begins to find his life in danger, Steven realises that the police are not the only ones objecting to his involvement.

This title was first published by Allison & Busby in the UK in 2005. It was the fifth thriller to feature Steven Dunbar, a series which currently extends to ten..

EYE OF THE RAVEN A Dr Steven Dunbar Thriller Book 5 edition by Ken McClure Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

More conventional villains here and no HMG (Her Majesty Government) involvement. In other words, diabolical but local.

Dunbar is interested in an interesting lady but...

Standard ending of virtually all Dunbar stories, this time bit like McGyver's feat. Remember McGyver? Very popular, spoofed frequently on Saturday Night Life.

Author remembers well the early US AIDS epidemic, looks now quite different here (and in the western world) but has not changed much in the third world, the place where it became almost a pandemic.

As always, well written with well observed details. Rains a lot there, it is, after all, UK, not southern California.

EYE OF THE RAVEN A Dr Steven Dunbar Thriller Book 5 edition by Ken McClure Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I belong to a book club, the selection for December was "Eye of the Raven" purchased at . There were two selection to choose I chose the book by Ken McClure. It turn out to be the wrong book, but I have read it and enjoyed it more, much more the the other book titled the same. Go Dr. Dunbar
Ken McClure has a wonderful way of informing, entertaining and holding a readers interest. I read lots of different genre but really enjoy the Dr. Dunbar series. Family life mixed with medical facts, mystery and some romance. Enough to really hold your interest, but not so complicated that you need to have a written list by the book to remember all the characters!
Interesting take on the usual sci-med adventure. Dr. Dunbar saves the day sort of. Scary to think this could really happen.
I can no longer remember specific books, but each usually involves some violence and some sex.
Ken McClure restores my faith in the pastime of reading thrillers. 'Eye Of The Raven' holds your attention from the first page to the last. The story is exciting, unrelenting and doesn't jump between time lines. The description of the forensics is enough for you to imagine the scene or body without exposing you to extensive horrific details so popular nowadays. Dunbar is the well rounded hero being educated, yet ex military who can hold his own amongst his peers but is more than capable when coming up against villains. In summing up, this book is a thoroughly enjoyable tale which leaves you wondering many times in the day when you can possibly steal a few moments to yourself to continue reading.
Dr. Dunbar is very dedicated to his job and really makes a difference.
I enjoy this type of novel. I was quite impressed because most of the
detective stories I have read are American and seem to need a lot of
gory happenings to hold the interest of readers. I prefer a more cerebral
story with at least some ties to events that can happen in our world today.
I have enjoyed the previous Steven Dunbar books, even though I have found a few inconsistencies in them--mentioning a date for 730 then saying he picked the lady up t 8 as they had agreed--things like that. The stories have kept me going despite my aversion to mistakes like that. This book starts out saying the character lost his wife three years ago, when in the previous book it was four years ago! I only hope the story makes up for the lack of continuity I keep finding. I plan to rate the book again after completion but this sort of thing drives me crazy!
